The assignment in my Themed Experience Seminar class, was to create a sacred space that was based on a religion but could not use any of the traditional designs associated with that religion. I chose to create a Quaker Meetinghouse that aligned with the tenets of the Religious Society of Friends.
The entire structure is underground, allowing it to be more environmentally friendly and to blend in with the surroundings. The interior is simple and features many callbacks to the founding era of the religion, as well as motifs that emulate a "church-like" feeling. A hexagonal central meeting space represents the 6 main tenets of the religion.
